Wait and see? Pontiff to meet President in May

Two people were reportedly killed and five were hurt in the southern Gaza Strip on Thursday in an “Israeli attack” on an underground tunnel along the border between Gaza and Egypt, according to Hamas’s Health Ministry. Kenyan closure of Dadaab refugee camp blocked by high court
The High Court in Kenya has blocked the government’s bid to close the largest refugee camp in the world. A directive to shut the Dadaab camp and forcibly repatriate about 260,000 Somali refugees living there was issued last year. The deadline for its closure had been extended until May, but a high court judge ruled the decision was tantamount to an act of group persecution.

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Xi Jinping, his first direct approach to the Chinese leader. The president thanked Mr Xi for congratulating him on his inauguration last month and said he looked forward to “constructive” relations. The Bolivian government has declared a state of emergency in a vast agricultural area affected by a plague of locusts. President Evo Morales has announced a contingency plan, which includes $700,000 in extra funds for fumigation. The swarm first appeared over a week ago near the low-lying eastern city of Santa Cruz, where most of Bolivia’s food and meat is produced.
US says it killed 11 al-Qaeda operatives in Syria air strikes
US forces killed 11 members of al-Qaeda in two air strikes near Idlib in Syria, this month, including a former ally of Osama Bin Laden, the Pentagon says. Captain Jeff Davis, a spokesman, said 10 operatives had been killed in a single strike last Friday. A second strike on Saturday killed Abu Hani al-Masri, who had close ties to the late al-Qaeda leader, he added.
