A wildfire raging in western Spain on Friday forced the evacuation of 1,400 people from towns and campsites, officials said. The blaze, which broke out on Thursday amid scorching temperatures, has burned over 5,000 hectares (12,400 acres) of land, the government of Extremadura region said in a statement.

The Panama Canal Authority says it will temporarily cut the size of ships allowed through because of drought caused by El Nino. From 8 September, the maximum draft of ships will be cut to 39ft (11.89m), which may affect up to 20% of traffic. A similar restriction was imposed for the same reason in 1998.  
Mount Raung volcanic ash cloud halts Bali-bound flights
Persistent eruptions from Indonesia's Mount Raung continue to bring bad news for Bali-bound travellers. Virgin Australia and Jetstar grounded flights again on Friday as forecasters warned westerly winds would send dangerous ash clouds over Denpasar. The ash is expected to hang over the holiday island for the next couple of days.  
Nigeria to establish weapons factory, says President Buhari
Nigeria is going to establish a domestic weapons factory in an effort to cut its dependence on imported arms, President Muhammadu Buhari has said. The defence ministry had been told to develop plans for a "modest military industrial complex," the president, who came to power in May, said. Nigeria has been battling the militant Islamist group Boko Haram for the last six years.

The Israeli military launched reprisal attacks against Hamas targets in the central Gaza Strip just hours after rejectionist organizations fired a rocket at southern Israel, the army announced on Friday. "The IDF, by means of Israeli air force aircraft, attacked the Hamas terror organization's infrastructure in the central Gaza Strip a short time ago," the IDF Spokesperson's Unit announced in a press release.

A strong earthquake struck Rwanda and shook most of the capital Kigali on Friday morning. The magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Rwanda at 3.25am local time (01.25 GMT), the United States Geological Survey reported. The epicentre of the earthquake was located 35 km north of Cyangugu city in western Rwanda, occurring at a shallow depth of 10 km.

DR Congo earthquake kills two children in Bukavu
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake has hit eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killing two children, Information Minister Lambert Mende has said. It was also felt in neighbouring Rwanda were authorities reported minor injuries. The epicentre of the quake was near Lake Tanganyika and Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province in DR Congo, the Associated Press news agency reports.  
Islamic State abducts dozens of Christians from Syrian town
Islamic State militants have abducted dozens of Christian families after seizing a strategically located town in the central Syrian province of Homs, a monitor said on Friday. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 230 people were kidnapped, including dozens of Christians, some of whom were taken from a church in Qaryatain, the town captured overnight after heavy fighting with the Syrian army.

The Saudi Oil Price War Is Backfiring
Saudi Arabia has long enjoyed the status of being the top crude oil exporter in the world. With record production of 10.564 million barrels per day in June 2015, Saudi Arabia has been one of the major driving forces behind the current oil price slump. The American Media Institute revealed that an ISIS recruitment pamphlet had been found in Pakistan outlining a plan for an ‘Armageddon-like world war’ that the group plans to initiate in India. According to the pamphlet, ISIS hopes to build up an army in Afghanistan and Pakistan, collecting enough forces to create a massive war of apocalyptic proportions to end the world.

Emergency services teams identified radioactive material emanating from a shipping container at the Ashdod Port on Monday. As a precaution, port workers were evacuated, so that the Fire and Rescue Services and hazardous materials teams could perform checks on the material, a statement from Fire and Rescue Service's southern district said. The container arrived to the port from a Chinese ship, Channel 2 reported.
