Stockholm pogrom: Crowd of masked men hunt and beat up non-Swedes
Dozens of masked man went on an anti-immigrant rampage in Stockholm in an apparent retaliation for the stabbing death of a young Swedish woman at a refugee center earlier this week, local media reported. The crowd of some 40 to 50 people went on a violent spree on Friday night at around 9 p.m. local time in and around the Swedish capital’s main railroad station, according to the Aftonbladet daily. A U.S. Navy destroyer sailed within 12 nautical miles of an island claimed by China and two other states in the South China Sea on Saturday to counter efforts to limit freedom of navigation, the Pentagon said. China claims most of the South China Sea, through which more than $5 trillion of world trade is shipped every year. Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and Taiwan have rival claims.

France considers recognition of a Palestinian state
France will recognize a Palestinian state if its efforts to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks at an international conference fail, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Friday. He told French diplomats that the conference will aim to bring together the two parties and their American, European and Arab partners in order "to make happen a two-state solution."

HIV becoming resistant to key drug, study finds
Strains of HIV are becoming resistant to an antiretroviral drug commonly used to prevent and fight the virus, research has suggested. HIV was resistant to the drug Tenofovir in 60% of cases in several African countries, according to the study, covering the period from 1998 to 2015. The research, led by University College London, looked at around 2,000 HIV patients worldwide.

Shannon Airport: Plane diverted after 'security threat'
A Turkish Airlines plane travelling from Houston in the US to Istanbul has been diverted to Shannon Airport in the Republic of Ireland following a security threat. RTÉ reports that crew members became aware of a threat after a written note was discovered. The plane landed at the airport at 11:02 local time on Sunday and was met by emergency services.  

7.1-magnitude earthquake hits Alaska
(CNN)A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Alaska early Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter hit near Cook Inlet, 162 miles southwest of Anchorage. It was about 50 miles deep. Joshua Veldstra, a professional photographer who lives in Homer, said the earthquake lasted about 30 seconds.
