The UN humanitarian aid chief has expressed alarm after UN agencies were ordered out of rebel-held parts of the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine. Stephen O'Brien said the agencies had been told to leave by Friday, and several international non-governmental organisations (NGO) by Saturday. The Luhansk separatists had earlier banned 10 international humanitarian agencies citing "violations".

China's President Xi Jinping is set to unveil a landmark pledge on climate change and curbing harmful emissions, White House Officials have said. The moves comes after Mr Xi arrived in Washington DC for the next leg of his week-long US tour. Mr Xi and US President Barack Obama held informal talks at the White House on Thursday evening, where they also discussed Iran's nuclear programme.  

Mombasa ship: UN weapons seized by Kenya 'not illegal'
The UN has denied that weapons found on a cargo ship seized by Kenyan authorities at the port of Mombasa were being transported illegally. It says they were part of a legitimate consignment for its peace mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Both Kenyan authorities and the ship's Norwegian owners have said that the weapons were not declared.

At least 310 pilgrims were killed on Thursday in a crush at Mina, outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, where some two million people are performing the annual haj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia's civil defense authority said. At least 450 others were injured in the crush, which took place on Street 204 of the camp city at Mina, a few kilometers east of Mecca, where pilgrims stay for several days during the climax of the haj.

Office of Personnel Mgmt: 5.6M estimated to have fingerprints stolen in breach
The Office of Personnel Management announced Wednesday that 5.6 million people are now estimated to have had their fingerprint information stolen. That number was originally thought to be about 1.1 million, OPM said in a statement. About 21.5 million individuals had their Social Security Numbers and other sensitive information affected by the hack.

Refugees are flooding Europe, and due to a shortage of temporary housing, 21 refugees are being housed in the former Buchenwald camp near Weimar, Germany. The town of Shwerte decided on the unusual move after it absorbed 200 refugees and had no room or funds to provide for more.  

Russia Deploys 28 Warplanes to Syria
In a serious escalation of its military presence, Russia deployed 28 combat aircraft to its base in Syria. A senior United States official said on Monday that 12 Su-25 Frogfoot ground-attack planes and 12 Su-24 Fencers had arrived at the Russian base in Latakia, adding the ability to strike at ground-based targets.
