US tanks arrive in Germany to help Nato defences
The largest shipment of US brigades since the fall of the Soviet Union is arriving in northern Germany. The first of the 87 tanks and 144 military vehicles were being unloaded in the port of Bremerhaven on Friday. The equipment and 3,500 US troops are to be deployed along Nato's eastern frontier. The deployment aims to allay worries of potential Russian aggression in eastern Europe.  
Ivory Coast soldiers mutiny 'spreads to Abidjan'
A mutiny by soldiers in Ivory Coast appears to have spread to the country's commercial capital, Abidjan. Gunfire was heard inside a base for elite troops there. The mutiny began on Friday in the second-largest city, Bouake, before spreading elsewhere. The defence minister has gone to Bouake to discuss the protesters' demands, which are reportedly over pay.

Australian health authorities have issued a warning after a sharp rise in cases of a mosquito-borne virus. Ross River virus infected 314 people in Victoria in 2016, nearly a 50% increase on the year before, said the state's chief health officer Charles Guest. Prof Guest suggested stagnant water from recent heavy rain created conditions ripe for mosquito breeding.

Global Debt Hits 325% Of World GDP, Rises To Record $217 Trillion
While we eagerly await the next installment of the McKinsey study on global releveraging, we noticed that in the latest report from the Institute for International Finance released on Wednesday, total debt as of Q3 2016 once again rose sharply, increasing by $11 trillion in the first 9 months of the year, hitting a new all time high of $217 trillion. As a result, late in 2016, global debt levels are now roughly 325% of the world's gross domestic product.

1 of the last remaining Shakers dies at 89, leaving just 2
Sister Frances Carr, one of the last remaining members of a nearly extinct religious society called the Shakers, has died. She was 89. Carr died Monday surrounded by family and friends in the dwelling house at the Shaker community at Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester after a brief battle with cancer, said Brother Arnold Hadd, one of the group's two remaining members. Their community at Sabbathday Lake was settled in 1783...

Italy to seek to track down and deport migrants with no right to stay
Italy will seek to deport more migrants who have no right to be in the country and will open new detention centers to hold them before their expulsion, according to a written directive and a ministry source.
