In South China Sea, a Tougher U.S. Stance
The United States is poised to send naval ships and aircraft to the South China Sea in a challenge to Beijing’s territorial claims to its rapidly-built artificial islands... The move toward a somewhat more muscular stance follows talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama...which fell far short of a breakthrough over how territorial disputes should be settled in the strategic South China Sea.  
Weapons That Could Change Geophysical Landscape, Human DNA to Appear Soon
...Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations warned about new threats, including geophysical and genetic weapons that could pose threats to Russia’s well-being in the future. Future weapons will be based on energy, electromagnetic, radiological, geophysical and genetic principles. There will also be special information weapons to change people's perception, completely changing their mind, the Ministry said.  
Record 94,610,000 Americans Not in Labor Force
The number of Americans not in the labor force exceeded 94 million for the second time in a row last month hitting a new record high, according to new government data released Friday morning. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that a record 94,610,000 people (ages 16 and over) were not in the labor force in September. In other words they were neither employed nor had made specific efforts to find work in the prior four weeks.  
Guatemala mudslide leaves hundreds missing
Rescue workers in Guatemala are digging through rubble from a mudslide that hit a village not far from the capital, in search of hundreds missing. At least 26 bodies have so far been recovered from the village of El Cambray Dos, rescue services say. Heavy rains swept a torrent of boulders and mud onto houses on Thursday, 15km (nine miles) east of Guatemala City.  
Nigeria's Abuja hit by two blasts with at least 15 dead
Two bomb blasts that hit the outskirts of the Nigerian capital Abuja have killed at least 15 people and injured many more, officials say. The first struck near a police station in Kuje, 25 miles (40km) from Abuja. The second hit a bus stop in Nyanya. No group has said it carried out the attacks yet but suspicion has fallen on Boko Haram Islamists.  
US weighs new support for Syrian rebels against ISIS
The United States is considering extending support to thousands of Syrian rebel fighters, possibly with arms and air strikes, to help them push Islamic State from a strategic pocket of Syrian territory along the Turkish border, US officials say. US backing for the plan would come as moderate rebels in Syria, some trained and backed by the United States, say they have been targeted by Russian air strikes...  
France tells Putin to confine airstrikes to Islamic State
With Russian warplanes bombing Syria for a third day, French President Francois Hollande told President Vladimir Putin on Friday that Moscow's airstrikes must be confined to attacking Islamic State militants, not other rebels opposing the Damascus government.  
Hospital hit, three staff killed in bombing of Afghan city: Medecins sans Frontieres
Medical aid group Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said its hospital in the Afghan city of Kunduz was badly damaged, three staff were killed and 30 staff were unaccounted for after overnight bombing."We are deeply shocked by the attack, the killing of our staff and patients and the heavy toll it has inflicted on healthcare in Kunduz," MSF said in a statement.
